			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The age of maturity keeps changing. At one time a child was considered an adult when they reached puberty. Then it was moved to 18 years old. Now, a child can live at home and act like a dependent up until they are 26 without any problem. Adolescence is an artificial extension of childhood; a segment of society of adults that are still treated like children.<br />&#13;</p>
<p>The problem with extending a teens childhood years can be frustrating for everyone involved. The teen?s mind and body are telling them they are adults but everyone around them still treats them like a child. The result is anger and depression in most cases. With all the potential being bottled up it starts to boil over into society and into the families. Divorce rates are very high when there are teenagers in the home. All the frustration is vented somewhere.<br />&#13;</p>
<p>Parents talk about how difficult their children become when they become teenagers. If the tables were turned these parents wouldn?t behave much differently. Societies that have artificial restrictions and mandatory laws that restrict ownership, freedom, and development, overthrow their government in time. Why should we expect our teens to feel, or act, any differently?<br />&#13;</p>
<p>Am I suggesting that teens be able to wander the streets without rules or law? No. Teens should have the freedom of true property rights, to sign contracts, work, start businesses, live on their own, and make decisions about education and health care. Most adults think teens are incapable to make these kinds of decisions. Teens are incapable of ?real? love much less ownership decisions. The truth is, teens are more capable of these things than society thinks they are.<br />&#13;</p>
<p>Research shows that most cognitive reasoning and brain functioning peak at 14-15 years of age. Scary, isn?t it? In fact incidental memory ? remembering things by chance ? is very good with these early teens and is almost non-existent with people 50-60 year olds. The reason why so many teens act stupid when they are actually very smart is simple. They are acting within boundaries given them. When cooped up with hundreds of other teens with aimless lives the results are predictable. They act like all the other teens.<br />&#13;</p>
<p>A teen?s world is void of freedom, responsibility, and realism. Instead of working and interacting with adults they spend over 65 hours a week with fellow teens. This huge segment of teens is targeted by aggressive marketers of large businesses. Idle teens with mock-responsibility spend over $200 billion each year on music, clothing, and make-up. They decorate their pseudo-world with posters of pop icons and other meaningless objects. Instead of working along side adults they are warehoused with other teens in a system designed to contain and restrict them.<br />&#13;</p>
<p>Imagine 15 year olds actively becoming scientists, businessmen, and expanding their minds, as they become part of adulthood. By aligning their potential with society they will become assets early in their lives. Meaningful lives will replace their shell of existence they will leave behind.</p>

Heat related illnesses are caused due to prolonged exposure to heat and also humidity without any reprieve and due to inadequate intake of fluids. Kids and teens adjust to the variations in heat compared to adults who adapt more quickly. However the heat production is high in them when compared to adults but sweat relatively less. Sweating is the natural action of the body and cooling mechanism to counter heat. Kids and teens often ignore these facts and do not hydrate themselves enough while playing, participating in sports and exercises.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Kids and teens with health problems that are chronic or those who are on certain prescription could be more susceptible to heat related problems. Overweight adolescents or those who wear heavy clothing in times of exertion also suffer heat related illnesses. Heat related illnesses are basically classified into three types. They are: Heat cramps, heat stroke and heat exhaustion. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Heat cramps are the mildest of all heat related injuries and constitute aching muscle cramps and also spasms that occur during intense exercising and also after intense exercising and also sweating in high heat.  The symptoms of heat cramps include cramps that are painful in the legs. Flushed and moist skin is also symptoms of heat cramps. The symptoms could also include mild fever generally below 102 degree Fahrenheit. Teens suffering from heat cramps should move to a cool place and take adequate rest. Remove any excessive clothing and wear or put cool clothing on skin or cool skin using air conditioner or fan. Sports drinks which are cool and which contains sugars and salts can also be taken. Stretching out cramped muscles slowly and steadily also helps reduce heat cramps. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>On the other hand hear exhaustion is more serious and severe compared to heat cramps and occur due to heavy loss of salt and water from the body. Extreme heat conditions, inadequate fluid intake and excessive sweating results in this conditions. Also, heat exhaustion occurs as a result of inability of the body to maintain the body temperature below the normal which can deteriorate further and also result in a heat stroke which is even worse. The symptoms of heat exhaustion are: muscle cramps, moist skin, pale skin, nausea, fever above 102 degree Fahrenheit, diarrhea, vomiting, fatigue, headache, weakness, anxiety and faint feeling. Teens suffering from heat exhaustion should stay in cool surrounding and take enough rest. Removing excessive clothing, putting on cool clothes and sitting in fan or air conditioning also helps the situation. Intake of cold sports drinks which contains salts and sugars are also advisable. If a teen doesn?t show any signs of improvement even after taking all these measures a physician should be consulted immediately. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Heat stroke is the severest condition of all heat related illnesses. In this condition the body gets overwhelmed with excessive heat and the efficiency of the system that regulates body heat goes down considerably which can result in a serious emergency requiring immediate medical care. The symptoms of heat stroke include dry and warm skin, very high fever generally above 104 degree Fahrenheit, increased heart rate, appetite loss, nausea, headache, vomiting, fatigue, agitation, confusion, stupor, seizures, coma and possible death. A teenager experiencing symptoms of heat stroke should stay in a cool place and have adequate rest. Heat stroke is a serious condition and emergency attention should be sought by calling 911. In the meanwhile the affected teenager should be made free of excessive clothing and should be worn with cool clothes and also put cool water on the skin to lower the temperature. Placing ice bags in armpits also helps. Make the teenager drink cool drinks if the teenager is alert. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Heat strokes are very much preventable if certain precautions are taken like drinking adequate water during hot days, avoiding alcoholic and caffeine drinks, wearing light clothes, exercising in cooler time of the day, wearing sunglasses and hat, using umbrella on a hot day, applying sun cream with a spf of at least 15 etc. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A friend of mine has been working with defiant and aggressive teens for quite a few years. Adam Jones is the president of the Harbor House Foundation, &#8220;a ministry dedicated to the health and well being of parents and students.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#13;Through the years of working with struggling and aggressive youth, Adam learned very important truths for managing defiant and aggressive behavior in teens. I had the privilege of corresponding with him a couple days ago. I asked him, &#8220;If you had to choose, what are the most important ways that a parent or guardian can manage a teen&#8217;s aggressive and defiant behavior?&#8221;</p>
<p>&#13;Over the next couple of weeks, we will get more in depth on how these tips or strategies play out in your home. Here are the 3 valuable pieces of advice:</p>
<p><b>The Parent Should Always Control Themselves</b></p>
<p>&#13;Conversations and arguments WILL get out of control with your teen if you are not controlling yourself. A lot of the time, or most of the time, adolescents push their parent&#8217;s hot buttons. For some it is intentional, and for some it isn&#8217;t. Some teens act defiant and rebellious simply to inspire a reaction out of you. As a parent, you cannot react to your teen or their rebellious behaviors.</p>
<p>&#13;If you are always arguing with your teen, or if you lose your cool because your teen is openly defiant, you have just taught your teenager that it&#8217;s OK to behave that way. Whether you see it or not, your teens look to you as an example, even if their harsh words don&#8217;t say it.</p>
<p>&#13;A parent needs to always remember that they cannot control the actions of their teen. That problem alone causes hardships left and right. Parents cannot control their teens decisions. They can however guide, lead, and equip them to deal with their aggression and anger in a healthy way.</p>
<p><b>The Parent Needs to Recognize the Signs of Potential Aggressiveness in Their Teen</b></p>
<p>&#13;We&#8217;ll break this down in future articles so that you will be able to fully understand the signs of aggression. While noticing and recognizing the signs is important, there are obvious triggers that anger teens. These triggers need to be identified by the parents so that they will be able to handle themselves when the triggers are present. Briefly, recognizing the signs of potential aggression in teens is often referred to as WAVE: wind up, agitation, verbal abuse, explosion.</p>
<p><b>If the Parent is the Source of the Problem, They Need to Remove Themselves</b></p>
<p>&#13;If the parent is not controlling themselves, and if the parent is instigating, this will cause a teen&#8217;s behavior to be aggressive, defiant, and rebellious. An instigating parent is the worst ingredient for managing aggressive behavior in teens. Parents sometimes instigate their children because they don&#8217;t know any other way of handling their aggressive behaviors. Most troubled teens take offense to such an attack. Adam also provided three points of focus for this one tip. We will study them soon.</p>
<p>&#13;Those points are prevention, intervention, and post-vention.</p>

Not only does being overweight as a teenager have long-term emotional consequences, but more and more studies are determining that our future cardiac health depends a lot on what we do to our bodies as adolescents.  Easy weight loss for teens involves understanding the peer pressure your overweight teen may be facing and learning about the basic principles of weight loss.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Being overweight as a teen can be a brutal experience.  Teasing and peer pressure is at a peak during these years as our children move from childhood to adulthood.  It can be difficult to form positive attitudes that will benefit your child as an adult when he or she is constantly ridiculed for being overweight.  The negative comments they receive will either be held inward or projected outward at society or people in general.  Teens that are overweight may develop a poor self-image and resort to fad diets and starvation to attempt to achieve the body that so many celebrities have set as the &#8220;ideal&#8221; body.  Anorexic models and extremely thin starlets are splashed all over the magazines many teens read.  The diets that these dangerously thin celebrities follow are available on the internet as easy weight loss for teens.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>It&#8217;s imperative that you help your teen understand what easy weight loss for teens is really about.  Just as with many subjects such as sex and drugs, if they don&#8217;t hear it from you, they may follow misinformation from their peers or the media.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Help your teen understand the basics about proper nutrition.  Easy weight loss for teens does not involve fad diets or starvation.  You might need to educate yourself first on this subject.  There&#8217;s a lot of misinformation out there regarding weight loss and proper nutrition.  No carb&#8217;s, lo carb&#8217;s, maple syrup, high protein&#8230; it&#8217;s an unending list, really.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Easy weight loss for teens can be found within a simple equation.  Weight maintenance dictates that calories consumed must be equivalent to caloric output.  Therefore, if weight loss is desired, the equation must be shifted to have a caloric deficit.  This can be achieved by lowering the amount of calories consumed, increasing caloric output via exercise or best of all, doing both.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Your teen needs to understand that easy weight loss for teens doesn&#8217;t mean fast.  A healthy goal for weight loss is around one to two pounds per week.  Drastically lowering calories will achieve quicker weight loss, but the trade-off is that metabolism is lowered, thus making it more difficult to lose weight in the future.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>To begin easy weight loss for teens, use a calorie calculator to determine the appropriate amount of calories for your teen based on height, weight, age, sex and activity level.  Calorie calculators can be found free of charge on the internet.  From there, set up a plan that will create a calorie deficit of 500 to 1000 calories per day to achieve either a one pound or two pound per week weight loss goal.  It&#8217;s imperative that your teen achieves this deficit through diet and exercise.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>For calorie information, read food labels.  Your teenager needs to read these labels and learn how to properly portion food.  We live in a super-sized country.  Seeing what a real portion looks like can be surprising at first.  Easy weight loss for teens, however, cannot be achieved unless they understand portions and learn approximate caloric values of different foods.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Consult the food guide pyramid available at www.eatright.org for information on what types of foods your teenager should be eating.  The misguided notion that carbohydrates are bad has created a lot of confusion.  As long as the majority of carbohydrate consumption is whole grains, fruits and vegetables as opposed to simple carbohydrates like sweets and white breads and pastas, carb&#8217;s are okay and should be a regular part of your teenager&#8217;s diet.  Choose lean meats over high fat meats and try to incorporate fish into your easy weight loss for teens plan.  Dairy is also an important food group.  Just remember to choose low-fat or fat free dairy products.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Above all, in learning about easy weight loss for teens don&#8217;t forget to be a positive and encouraging part of your teen&#8217;s weight loss.  Try not to pressure them.  They&#8217;re feeling enough pressure at school and from themselves.  On a bad day, an encouraging smile and a big hug may be all they really need.</p>

<p>Self harm cutting can become a habit, it can become so common that you forget that this action is due to a deep dissatisfaction that you have. You may mask the pain in your heart by cutting but deep inside you are not happy. This unhappiness is not your fault; it has nothing to do with being stupid or crazy. Cutters are very intelligent; it is an act that becomes apart of your total dissatisfaction with life. Hating this life can lead to you hurting yourself and self harm cutting</p>
<p>The emotional pain and the hating of this life that many gothic teens feel has caused the incredible rise of self harm among the Gothic community. There is a hidden pain at the root of many teens that have adopted the Gothic life style. The pain can be masked within the community of Gothic but it will never go way. The dissatisfaction has been caused by this world and it is not the fault of the teen. Many teens have problems from families and relationships and feel that know one really understands them. They may see this world that they have been give as one big ball of depression and pain.</p>
<p>Gothic teens may get the chance to hide the deep emotional pain by being surrounded in Gothic community but they pain is still there, it can only be covered but like an empty bottle the inside is still not filled. As you learn to fill back up from the emotional pain you will not need to harm yourself or others. Many feel there is no escape from the cycle of self harm but there is. Cutting is serious, each cut leaves a deeper emotional scar that goes far beyond cutting yourself. The emotional pain you have often comes from your disappointments with your family or from others close to you. Science is showing that you can take back the power that has emptied you out and causing you to do self harm cutting. It is a new approach discovered by a filmmaker that has been having great success with self injury, it involves no doctors, and no therapy; actually the depressed person heals alone. Mind you not all adults are as responsible as they should be and they too have to suffer the consequences of having unprotected sex.</p>

<p>Boys and girls enjoy your childhood as nature intended, life is too short to throw it all away through a mistake that could have been prevented. Given all this, it?s no surprise that many people aren?t happy with how they look, and this is especially true with teenagers. Many feel insecure and self-conscious at this time of life anyway, and some even develop low self-esteem and in some cases, disordered eating habits.</p>
<p>A lot of the teenagers who want to slim down don?t actually need to lose weight at all, but are trying to conform to the unrealistic media stereotypes. If that is true of your teenager, it&#8217;s especially vital to try to reassure them that they?re perfectly loveable and attractive just as they are.</p>
<p>However, if a teen does need to lose weight, it is a good idea to do so, or they may face long term health problems as well as an immediate reduction in quality of life. But they should be discouraged from using crash diets and other unhealthy means; teens who want to slim down should do so in a balanced, sensible manner. This means making long term changes in the eating habits that caused them to gain weight to start with. Frightening as it sounds; communication is the key between you and your child when it comes to sexuality. We as parents cannot be there for out children 24 hours a day, all we can do is instill some experience and knowledge into their minds and hope it guides them intellectually to the right decisions in life.</p>
<p>When you child approaches you about sex, take a deep breath, it can be an unnerving and an uncomfortable feeling? It?s not going to be easy at first, but in the end, you will feel better about talking about it. Ask your teen what lead them to ask you this question. If they tell you that someone they have interest in has brought it to their attention, then it is ok. Hopefully they have not done anything yet. With the way society is with our kids growing up in it, peer pressure can be a bit overwhelming and more likely some teens might give in to it.</p>
<p>Explain to them that their body is a precious temple, keeping it pure and maintaining their virginity is a very rare and special thing. State that even though they might be thinking about doing it; they are simply too young for such an experience and the best thing to do is to wait until they are older and more mature. Inform them that just because you have feelings for someone it doesn?t necessarily have to be any sexual involvement, that there are consequences when having sex and even though your teen might think they know all about it, there is always more to tell.</p>
<p>Unprotected sex can lead to you contracting a sexually transmitted disease, like gonorrhea that can cause inflammation of the genital mucous membrane, burning pain when urinating, and a discharge. It is caused by a gonococcus bacterium. Another disease to worry about is PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease) an inflammation of a woman?s reproductive organs in the pelvic area, which can cause infertility. </p>
<p>Syphilis is a serious sexually transmitted disease caused by the spirally twisted bacterium Treponema pallidum that affects many body organs and parts, including the genitals, brain, skin, and nervous tissue, and Chlamydia, which can cause infertility, chronic pain, or a tubal pregnancy if left untreated. Many diseases can be contracted with oral and sexual intercourse. Oral sex is not safe and you still can catch certain diseases in your mouth.</p>
<p>Love can be a cruel emotion. Let you child know that just because they feel strongly towards another person, it does not mean that their feeling are mutual. Sex can be the only issue with the other person; he or she could be out to use you for it. Help them to understand that if they are not willing to wait for the right time, then that person might not be such a good influence on them.</p>
<p>Motherhood is a hard job; a child simply cannot raise a child. They have plenty of time to grow up, get their education and then they can decide if being a parent is what they want. Life is so good; they should be able to enjoy it while they can without any setbacks. Sex is a way of two people showing their love for one another. It is not something to take lightly. Giving up your virginity is a very important choice and you should not be coursed into it.</p>
<p>Trust and communication is so crucial to you and your child?s relationship. Your child being able to come to you and talk to you about the most important things that are going on in their life is so necessary. Knowing how your child feels and what is going on in their life without being too concerned, makes an open and great relationship between you two.</p>
<p>If you think that your child might go that way, then talking to them about birth control is an option. Sometimes talking does some good, but not enough and they still might end up having intercourse. Just be safe, let them know about birth control methods to prevent pregnancy. It?s hard I know, but you rather educate them and be safe about it, then to do nothing at all.</p>
<p>Good luck, being a parent is hard work. We want the best for our babies, sometimes it is hard to separate the day they were born from the day that they became adults. We wish our children could stay the cute adorable babies that they once were. They have to grow up, there might be drama, rebellion, and a lot of hair in the sink, but in the end, we love unconditionally and appreciate every single moment.</p>
