Bedwetting: A Natural Cure for an Embarrassing Condition
Bedwetting is one of the biggest sources of embarrassment for a child and even more so for a teen. Although there are various opinions on both causes and cures, none of these really matter to bedwetters; the only thing they really care about is finding a way to stop it, for good.
When you think of ?bedwetting,? most people think ?children.? Would it surprise you to learn that as many as 2% of all 19 year-olds still wet the bed?
There are, of course, different causes of bedwetting in children and teenagers. In children, it may be an ongoing problem, where a lengthy period of dry nights has yet to be established. This is called primary enuresis (the medical terminology for bedwetting). Secondary enuresis occurs when a child or teenager begins wetting after having been dry through the night for an extended period.
Children achieve bladder control at different ages, so bed-wetting under the age of five is fairly common and rarely a cause for concern. It affects more boys than girls and bed-wetting episodes may go on into adolescence.
Causes include an inability to awaken from sound sleep, heredity, hormonal problems, nervous system compromise from subluxations that affects the child’s ability to keep the bladder from emptying while asleep.
The shame your child feels as a bed-wetter could lead to emotional or behavior problems, particularly if your child is older. Your child should never be made to feel guilty about bet-wetting since it is something that is beyond his or her control. Any form of punishment does nothing to solve the problem and can actually make it worse.
Chiropractic adjustments have also been shown to be successful in reducing bed-wetting episodes. The nerves that control the emptying of the bladder are connected to the brain through the spine. Aligning the spine may correct any faulty messaging or incomplete nerve impulses that travel between the bladder and the brain. Several studies have confirmed that there is every reason for parents to at least give chiropractic a try.
